Mac OS X 10.5 - Setup and Configuration of a Ethernet (PPPoE) Connection

This article provides steps for setting up and configuring a PPPoE connection in Mac OS X 10.5.

Introduction

Ethernet PPPoE is configured within the Ethernet Network Panel in Mac OS X 10.5. This articles illustrates how to setup and configure an EarthLink DSL PPPoE connection.

Important: The modem should be set in Bridge Mode before connecting with PPPoE. This configuration does not require a router if directly connected to the modem.


Setup and Configuration of a Ethernet (PPPoE) Connection

  1. Click the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences.

  2. Under the Internet and Network section, choose Network.

  3. On the left menu, select Built-in Ethernet.

  4. From the drop-down menu next to Configure, choose Create PPPoE Service.

  5. Enter a name to identify the PPPoE Connection.

  6. Enter the Username and Password. Click the Apply and then click Connect.

    Important: Remember to place a check mark in the box next to Show PPPoE Status in menu bar.


    A new configuration for PPPoE appears in the Network Panel.
