UHP DSL Modem: Allowing More than One Computer to Connect

Answers to some questions about using the UHP modem with more than one computer at a time.

Question

Will the Unified Hardware Platform (UHP) DSL modem allow more than one computer to connect to the Internet at the same time?

Answer

No. By design, the UHP DSL modem itself will only allow one computer to connect to the Internet at one time. If an attempt to browse the Web is started while another computer is already connected, a screen will appear in the web browser requesting the DSL account password. Once the password is typed in, the Internet connection will switch to the new computer. The original computer will no longer be connected to the Internet. However, with EarthLink Home Networking or a customer supplied router, the router will allow more than one computer to connect to the Internet at the same time.

Resolution

Switching the Internet connection while one computer is on the Internet:

  1. Open an Internet browser in another computer.
  2. In the Password field, type your DSL account password.
  3. Click the Obtain Connection button.
