Release and Renew Your IP Address: All Versions of Windows

Follow the instructions below to release and renew your IP address in Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP.

How to Release and Renew Your IP address in Windows 98 and Me
  1. Click the Start button, and choose Run.

  2. In the Open field, type winipcfg.
  3. Click the OK button.

  4. Click the down arrow on the drop-down list and choose your network adapter.

    Note: Your network adapter may be an ethernet, wireless, or HPNA adapter.

  5. Click the Release button.

  6. Click the Renew button.
  7. Click the OK button.

How to Release and Renew Your IP address in Windows 2000 and XP
  1. Click the Start button, and choose Run.

  2. In the Open field, type cmd.
  3. Click the OK button.

  4. Type ipconfig /release and press the Enter key.
  5. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

  6. Type ipconfig /renew and press the Enter key.
  7. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

    You have renewed your IP address.
