The EarthLink Pop-up Blocker
automatically stops annoying "pop-up windows" (advertisements that
"pop up" in a separate window when you browse the Web) from
appearing while you browse the Web. You don't have to do anything.
Some pop-up windows are used to display important information,
such as forms, tables, or graphs. When you wish to see these
windows, simply press and hold the CTRL button on your keyboard
while you click a link to display its pop-up window.

The Pop-Up Blocker
buttons
When the EarthLink Pop-up Blocker is
installed, two buttons appear in the Internet Explorer Toolbar
(the Toolbar is at the top of the Explorer window and contains
the Back, Forward, and Stop buttons) . If
the buttons aren't there, right-click the toolbar and click
Pop-up Blocker to show them.
Click the Pop-up Blocker menu button to view the
menu options available.

Add this Web site to my Allow List
Allows pop-up windows for the Web site you're on when you
choose this option.

Remove this Web site from my Allow List
Stops allowing pop-up windows for the Web site you're on.

View recently blocked pop-up windows
Displays a list of pop-ups that have been blocked from the
current browser (since the last time you opened Internet
Explorer).

Click the ON/OFF button to turn
Pop-up Blocker on or off. When on, the button is
green. When off, the button is red.

To get to the Options screen, click the
Pop-up Blocker menu button on the
Internet Explorer Toolbar (the Toolbar is at the top of the
Explorer window and contains the Back, Forward, and
Stop buttons) and choose Options.
The Options screen is where you make changes to the way
that Pop-up Blocker works. Make any changes that
you want, then click the OK button to return to your
browser.

Protection Level
The options in this area allow you to select the level of
pop-up blocking you wish to have.

Off - Pop-up Blocker will not block
any pop-ups.
-
Normal Blocking - Pop-up windows will only be
blocked for new websites you go to (except for those
sites on your Allow List).

Full Blocking - Pop-up windows will be blocked for
all sites that are not on your allow list.

Block Shockwave and Flash - If this option is
checked, Pop-up Blocker will also block all
Shockwave and Flash animations on sites that are not on
your allow list.
Play a sound when pop-up window is blocked
Check this box to have Pop-up Blocker alert
you with a sound when it blocks a pop-up window.
To choose your own sound for the alert:

Click the Browse button on the Options
screen and navigate to the sound you want.

Click OK to save your choice.

The Allow List
You may visit Web sites that use pop-up windows that you
want to see every time you go. Add a Web site to the Allow
List if you don't want the site's pop-up windows blocked.
You can allow pop-ups from an entire Web site, or only from
a particular page within a larger Web site (see To add a
Web site or page below).
For instance, you may want to allow pop-ups from the
John Lennon Web page, but not allow them for the
rest of the Beatles Web site.
To open the Allow List, click the Open Allow List
button on the Options screen.
To add a Web site to the list (i.e., allow every Web
page on the site to show pop-ups):

Double-click anywhere on the Allow List and type
the Web address (you don't have to type "http://").

Press the RETURN button on your keyboard.

Click the OK button.
The entire Web site will be added to the list and the next
time you visit, pop-up windows will be allowed.
To add a single Web page to the list (i.e., allow
one Web page on the site to show pop-ups):

Point Internet Explorer to the Web site.

Click the Pop-up Blocker
menu on the Internet Explorer Toolbar, and choose Add
this Web site to my Allow List.
The next time you visit that Web page, pop-up windows will be
blocked, but other pages on that Web site may be allowed.
To remove a Web site or page

Open the Allow List from
-
Click in the box next to the Web address to remove the
check.

Click the OK button.
The next time you visit that Web site, pop-up windows will be
blocked.
To Edit a Web site or page
-
Double-click any Web address in the list to make it
editable.

Type the Web address that you want to allow pop-ups for.

Press the RETURN button on your keyboard.

Click the OK button.
The next time you visit that Web site, pop-up windows will be
not be blocked.
When a pop-up has been blocked, the Web site's address will
appear in the Always allow pop-ups list (WITHOUT a check in
the box) until you close your browser. You can check its
box (to allow pop-ups from that site) or ignore it.

Advanced Options
Click the Advanced button on the Options screen to
access preview and snapshot functions.
Show a preview of blocked pop-ups:
Choose Show for 2 Seconds, or Fade out to
see each pop-up window for a short time before the
Pop-up Blocker closes it (or
has it fade out). In either case, you will not have to
close the pop-up window. If you are running Windows 98, you
cannot use the Fade out option. Turn previews off by
selecting the Never option.
Save snapshots of blocked pop-ups:
Choose Small, Medium, or Large to
have Pop-Up Blocker store snapshots (that is, smaller
versions) of blocked pop-up windows for later reference.
Turn snapshots off by selecting the Never option.
To see the snapshots, click the
Pop-up Blocker menu button
on the Internet Explorer Toolbar (the Toolbar is at the top
of the Explorer window and contains the Back, Forward, and
Stop buttons) and choose View recently blocked pop-up
windows. (Sometimes a pop-up can not be made into a
snapshot and will appear as a white box. Click the box to
view a full version of the pop-up.)
If you are running Windows 98, the snapshots feature is
disabled.
If you enable the snapshots feature, your computer will
load all pop-up windows and you surfing speed may diminish.

How do I know when a pop-up window is being
blocked?
Your pointer will turn into a fist icon while a pop-up
window is being blocked.
If the Pop-up Blocker Settings have been set
to Play a sound when pop-up window has been blocked,
then you will hear an alert as well.

How can I view a pop-up after it has been
blocked?
Click the Pop-up Blocker
menu button on the Internet Explorer toolbar, and choose
View recently blocked pop-up windows.
If you have the Thumbnails feature enabled (see the
Options screen), then you will see a Thumbnail version of
the blocked pop-up windows.
If you have the Thumbnails feature disabled, then
you will see a list of Web addresses for the blocked
pop-ups. Click one of the Web addresses to have its pop-up
window appear.

I like the pop-up windows on a certain Web site. Can I
allow them to appear every time I go there?
Yes! Go to the Options screen, and add the Web site
to the Allow List. (For info on how to do that, see
the Options Screen.)

My Internet Explorer window doesn't have the
Pop-up Blocker buttons. What do I
do?
Right-click in the Internet Explorer Toolbar, and check
Pop-up Blocker.
If Pop-up Blocker is
checked, but you still can't see the buttons, try resizing
or moving your Internet Explorer toolbars. (If you don't
know how to do this, click the Internet Explorer Help menu
for help.)

I clicked a link that should open a pop-up window, but
it was blocked! How do I get it to open?
Press and hold the CTRL button on your keyboard
while you click the link.
You can also set
Pop-up Blocker to open a
pop-up by clicking the link twice within two seconds. You
can do this from the Options screen.

that it is disabled. How do I enable it?
Make sure you have TotalAccess
running and you are signed in. Open a new Internet
Explorer window, and it will be enabled.
